The most prominent of the South Australian pioneer pastoralists was the Angas family. George Fife Angas through his agent Charles Flaxman purchased a large area covering the central Barossa Valley and part of the adjoining Eden Valley. Parawatta was a pastoral outstation for the Angas family Eden Valley stations along Flaxman’s Valley to the east of Angaston. This valley is drained by the north flowing North Para River which next turns west, plunges into the Barossa Valley, turns to the south and from Nuriootpa forms the western edge of the Barossa Valley.
