Ariadne wines are sourced from the Adelaide Hills wine region which is the great cooler climate region of South Australia. The topography is a maze of small valleys divided by small ridge lines, creating a great number of tiny sub-regions as the roads twist, turn and double back. Hence our choice of Aradnie for our Adelaide Hills wines – the mistress of the labyrinth in Greek mythology.
The Adelaide Hills rise 300-600 hundred metres above the plains that extend north and south of the city of Adelaide. With a cooler and wetter climate than the plains the Adelaide Hills has flourished as the market garden for stone fruit and vegetables for South Australia. While vines date back to the early days of settlement the expansion into a premium wine region is as recent as the 1980s. The Adelaide Hills is now a significant producer of varieties well suited to a cool climate and is recognised as a serious producer of Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay.
