A Wine for Cellaring Just $16.50

A wine for cellaring was what the customer asked for and Bengalee Barossa Valley Shiraz 2018 was what we answered. Already it’s a delight to drink. And being from what is turning out to be a top vintage it will repay being carefully stored for years yet.

Bengalee Shiraz has cellaring poential

The 2018 Bengalee came off the back of the large 2017 crop. While it belongs with the three drought years 2018, 2019 and 2020 the vintage was more normal than the two later ones as even with drip irrigation the soils dry out.

Bengalee wines are sourced from vineyards close to the town of Greenock. The interesting story of the brand tells how it was named after “a thorough temperance ship”. Every time you drink a glass of Bengalee you can consider it an act of revenge on behalf of a crew forced to be teetotal as they carried German migrants all of the way from England to Sydney.

Our first vintage of the Bengalee Shiraz was the 2008 and it is still a beautiful drink and clearly a wine for cellaring. The full list of Bengalee releases.
