The Glug story in the wine industry goes back to 1975 when David and Richard Farmer became pioneers in busting the high price stranglehold that resale price maintenance gave liquor merchants and manufacturers. That early commitment to providing customers with value-for-money now continues at Glugwines.
1. What does Glug do?
Glug both makes wine and purchases wines in bulk from across South Australia for blending and bottling at its Samuel Road winery, Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley.
2. What is the Glug Advantage for You?
Glug sells directly to customers which means lower prices since wholesalers and retailers are side stepped. As well all of the brands are owned so marketing or advertising costs are not required.
3. Who runs Glug?
David Farmer wine merchant and now industry veteran opened a store in the Canberra suburb of Manuka in June, 1975. Continuously since then David has been tasting, buying and selling wines. To understand what creates the flavours of wine, David, from the late 1990s, explored the role of soils, landscapes and geology by mapping many wine regions.
4. How Do I Buy?
The wines for sale are on the Glug site. Emails are sent out to customers which review and offer new and recent bottlings with occasional one and two-day specials. The Monday email takes the form of a letter written by David which provides an on-going commentary about wine, food and related topics.
5. Guides to Buying
The wines Glug has in stock are listed at the top of each page and post.
The list of each style gives a brief description of the wines and their price. Glug Wines has details of Glug brands with their history. The Best of the Best section is just that – recommendations to wines we are particulary proud of.
But Glug is more than just rows of pictures of bottles, notes and prices. We enjoy finding and providing newa, views and information about the wonderful world of wine. The various categories are at the very top of each page. We reckon the more we learn about wine the more we enjoy it.
