The last sentence says what you need to know about the mysteries of wine – much of it is complete nonsense.
From the London Times:
“Investigators in Bordeaux have uncovered a “gigantic” fraud that involved disguising almost five million bottles of cheap Spanish wine as French before putting them on the market.
Some contained downmarket wines bought for a few euros a litre but sold as Bordeaux from the most hallowed areas, such as Saint-Émilion, Pomerol, Saint-Julien and Margaux, where the finest bottles can cost hundreds of euros. The rest was sold as French table wine, still more expensive than Spain’s.
Prosecutors say the fraud generated about €4 million between 2013 and 2019 and the claim is a setback to Bordeaux, which is striving to restore its reputation amid criticism that its wines are too costly.
It may dent the pride of those drinkers who bought the wines: none seemed to know the difference.”
